Summary

Not among Werner Herzog’s most acclaimed films, this drama is based on a bühnenfragment (literally: “stage fragment”) by Georg Büchner, one that Herzog had long dreamed of adapting. It’s about a soldier who’s driven to madness and murder by his abusive superiors, his uncaring doctor, and his adulterous wife.
