Year of Living Dangerously, The

Summary

Civil unrest in 1965 Indonesia backdrops this morally complex tale of loyalty and betrayal, ambition and ethics. Linda Hunt is remarkable in a cross-gendered role, and thankfully the superfluous romantic sub-plot doesn’t do irredeemable harm to the film. Sensuous and intelligent, this is a rewarding movie despite its flaws.
