Summary

Cuban writer Reinaldo Arenas’ life is chronicled in this inconspicuously powerful film by painter/filmmaker Julian Schnabel. Javier Bardem delivers a wonderful performance as the writer who ran afoul of the Cuban revolution due to his vocation – writing – and his homosexuality. It’s slow-paced, mostly unassuming, but memorable.
