Summary

In this bio-pic of the infamous Marquis de Sade, director Philip Kaufman has asked some provocative questions, but his answers are too easy, his characters too one-dimensional and his film too overripe and obvious. This movie – staffed with a good cast and a usually interesting director – is a missed opportunity.
